EUROPLANE partners convened in Kaunas (Lithuania) from 17 to 19 April 2007 to hold their third General Assembly within the course of the EUROPLANE project. Apart from taking a closer look at the Kaunas region from an air traffic perspective, the intermediate results, status, and upcoming steps of the EUROPLANE project were discussed.
Topics for the EUROPLANE General Assembly were:
18 April 2007. A local delegation of Kaunas County and Kaunas Airport presented insightful information on this second largest Lithuanian county, taking into account Kaunas Airport, regional accessibility, tourism, and economic development (i.e. Kaunas Free Economic Zone). External experts from Belgium and Germany introduced the audience to various case studies of airport business park development, focusing both on success stories as well as potential obstacles that airports may encounter in the pursuit of business park development. For those new to EUROPLANE a brief introduction to the project was given. The status of work component 4 was presented.
19 April 2007. The status of work components 2 and 3 was shared with the EUROPLANE partners. As EUROPLANE has been able to obtain additional INTERREG III C funding for a project extension, additional upcoming activities were discussed among the partners. Mindful of the importance of project result dissemination, a project brochure concept, ideas for a joint project resolution, and a website framework were presented. First plans for an INTERREG follow-up project by the name of EUROBIRD have been conceived and were shared with the partners.
